Smoke Rise Turnaround Open After Roadway Collapse
Police said the turnaround is now available for use.
The Smoke Rise turnaround on Route 23 is back open Friday after it was closed Thursday afternoon due to a roadway collapse on the portion of the highway.
Lt. John Schwartz said the department sent out a Nixle alert to residents at 2:52 p.m. asking them not to use the turnaround while the state Department of Transportation repaired the road. The entrance to the turnaround on Route 23 North is in West Milford, while the exit on Route 23 South is in Kinnelon.
Repairs were completed in the afternoon and evening to restore the roadway and have it opened for Friday morning traffic.
