Stolen AJ's Pizza Car Leads to Man's Arrest

Bail was set at $20K for West Milford man accused of stealing car.

A West Milford man is being held in jail after being accused of stealing the car of a pizza delivery man who went inside AJ's Pizza in Butler to grab his next drop-off order, according to police.

Joseph Herriman, 43, has been charged with receiving stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of moveable property, Butler Police Capt. Ciro Chimento said. Herriman is being held at the Bergen County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail with no 10 percent option and awaits court appearances in both Bergen and Morris Counties.

Police learned of the stolen car on Saturday, Chimento said, when the driver reported the car gone just before 9 p.m. The delivery driver told Ptl. Jarred Schmeidhauser and Ptl. Dimitri Clarke that he had gone into AJ's to arrange his next delivery and had left his 2006 Volkswagen Jetta parked along the curb with the engine running.

When the driver came outside, the vehicle was gone, Chimento said.

Police entered the car's information in the national stolen vehicle database and later Saturday evening, Butler police were contacted by the Elmwood Park Police Department about the car being found in their jurisdiction, Chimento said.
