Two Found Dead in Kinnelon Home

Authorities say no evidence of break-in at Long Meadow Road residence.

Two people were found dead inside a Long Meadow Road home in the Smoke Rise section of Kinnelon, acting Morris Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said Thursday afternoon.

The two residents, who have yet to be identified, were found dead by police at 8:01 a.m. Thursday, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said in a written statement.

“As a precautionary measure, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), responded to the scene and cleared the residence without incident,” they said.

Police have found no evidence to suggest a break-in, Knapp said Thursday afternoon. A heavy police presence could be seen at the home at 252 Long Meadow, which is owned by John Paul and Joann Jones, according to NorthJersey.com.

The Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Kinnelon Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Section, and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing the investigation.

“The identities of the victims are being withheld pending proper identification and notification of the next of kin,” Knapp said.

An advisory was distributed to subscribed residents through the NIXLE system at 11:30 a.m., stating that Long Meadow Road would be closed from Perimeter Road to Smoke Rise Road until further notice.

Only residents of Long Meadow Road were allowed access to the street while the police conducted their investigation. Officers and security personnel could be seen standing guard on both ends of Long Meadow Road while police patrolled the area in vehicles.

The streets were quiet inside the gated community while the investigation was being conducted, with few bystanders or neighbors present.

"We will continue to support police as they move forward with their investigation," Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins said Thursday morning.
