Woman Airlifted After 2-Car Crash on I-78

Both vehicles overturn after colliding near King George exit, State Police said.

A 32-year-old woman was taken by Medevac transport to Morristown Medical Center after she was ejected from the vehicle she driving on I-78, east of the King George Road exit, struck another vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, state police said.

The woman's name has not been released. Police said she was in stable condition and conscious at the time of being airlifted.

The vehicles appear to have collided while traveling in the westbound lane, causing both to overturn. The woman's vehicle went off the road, and down an embankment, while the other remained on the road.

Two lanes of I-78 were closed for hours after the accident, as state police continued to investigate the accident.

I drive on 78 everyday for my commute, too many people treat it like it's the Autobahn.

@CT, what is the accident rate on the Autobahn?

Don't know Jon -- why?

My point was that I think you are saying people drive too fast. I disagree. I think 78 is, for the most part, engineered such that one could drive it safely up to about 130 or 140 MPH in most areas (notwithstanding construction and congestion.) But it all goes to hell real fast when you introduce a vast number of unsafe and wholly incompetent drivers, which is the situation we are in. The road is full of people going at or below the speed limit in the left and center lanes, people texting and weaving all over the road, changing lanes without signaling, etc. I long for the day that police start issuing tickets to people who are driving in the left or center lane without being in the act of passing someone. I believe that the fact that people are forced to pass on the right is a major contributor to the high accident rates so prevalent everywhere these days, along with electronic device usage.

I completely agree with you on wishing police would ticket slow drivers in the left lane. My point is 78 is a really busy highway, and there are too many fast and aggressive drivers, weaving in and out of heavy traffic. I drive on 78 everyday to my job in the city. I loathe it.
