The New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report showed violent crimes to have decreased in the Borough of Butler between 2010 and 2011.
According to the report, released last week, there were 10 fewer violent crimes in 2011 from 2010. Included in that is a drop in robberies (from four reported cases to one) and a drop in aggravated assault cases.
One murder was reported in 2010 while none were reported in 2011.

Non-violent crime in Butler saw a slight increase (from 97 to 103), although Butler's Crime Total Index decreased from 112 to 108.
The information collected by state police is based on a 2010 estimated population of 7,539 people and a borough area of 1.97 square miles. Butler is classified as an "urban center" community by state police.

The report also shows a three percent rise in overall crime, mostly in nonviolent crime, throughout the state. Nonviolent crimes are classified as burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
Violent crimes, which are classified as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, stayed the same statewide, according to New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa.
