Woman Caught on Camera Again Allegedly Shoplifting

West Milford woman arrested for second time in a month.

A West Milford woman was arrested after police said a surveillance video showed that she was allegedly involved in a shoplifting incident in 2009 at Kataw Jewelers, in the Meadtown Shopping Center.

Kimberly Phillips, 54, was charged with third-degree shoplifting.

According to police, the owner of the jewelry store reported in July of 2009 that while they were closing the store, he noticed a white gold and diamond ring valued at $3,000 missing from the display case.

Police reviewed a surveillance video and saw that a woman, who the owner was helping during the day, had reached behind the counter and taken the ring while the owner was away from the counter. The owner told police he had never seen the woman before.

While Det. Patrick McDonnell was investigating a shoplifting case at this month, police said they were able to identify Phillips in the Kataw Jewelers case as well.

South Beach Tanning is located just a few doors away from Kataw Jewelers and police used surveillance videos in that case to identify Phillips allegedly shoplifting tanning supplies and a wallet from an employee’s purse.

Phillips was arrested at the Kinnelon police station and charged with shoplifting. She was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
