5 Things: 2012 Tri-Boro Reorg Wrap-up

A few things you should know about the year ahead in municipal government.

Now that all three tri-boro borough councils have met and reorganized, we thought it would be a good time to fill you in on what went on and what you need to know going into 2012.

  1. You need to know who your council presidents are: All council presidents were appointed unanimously in the boroughs. council president is now Dan O'Dougherty, is Ed Vath and is Glenn Schiffman.
  2. You need to know when your regular council meetings are: Each council meets twice a month, once for a workshop meeting and a second time for a regular, typically more formal meeting. The Butler Council meets on the first and third week of the month at 7 p.m. (mostly on Tuesdays), the Bloomingdale Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. and Kinnelon meets on the second (at 6:30 p.m.) and third (at 8 p.m.) Thursday of the month.
  3. You need to know your borough officials: Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale have the same people as some of their borough officials. For instance, Paul Darmofalski has been appointed to continue to serve as borough engineer for all three boroughs, Lisa Perry serves as the animal control officer for all three boroughs, and Bob Westdyk was appointed to serve as fire prevention official for all three. Kinnelon's borough attorney is Mark Madaio, Butler's is Martin F. Murphy and Bloomingdale's is Mark Semeraro. As for borough auditors, Louis Mai was appointed in Kinnelon, Dieter Lerch was appointed in Bloomingdale and David Evans and Raymond Nisivoccia were appointed in Butler.
  4. You need to know your fire chiefs: and had fire department elections this year, while did not. Still, all fire chiefs must be sworn in at the annual reorganization meeting. In Kinnelon, Chief Keith Pavlak was sworn in, along with First Assistant Chief Gail Bresett and Second Assistant Chief Kevin Lowry. Butler swore in department Chief Jim Neill. In Bloomingdale, Chief Mike Hudson was sworn in, as well as Deputy Chiefs Mark Lime, Tony Marciano and Michael Wanklin.
  5. You need to know all three boroughs adopted temporary budgets: The boroughs will begin working on full 2012 budgets within a few weeks, if they have not already.
