Bloomingdale Hall to Be Open 5 Days

Borough employees to go back to five-day work week after Labor Day.

The will be going back to a five-day work week beginning the day after Labor Day, but Borough Hall will remain open late one night per week.

Beginning, Sept. 6, Borough Hall will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The council has been debating whether to go back to a five-day work week since March, with Council President Linda Huntley telling the council that she had heard from many residents that they had wished that Borough Hall were open on Fridays. Previously, Borough Hall was open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

While some residents seemed to agree with Huntley at the council's regular meeting on March 29, others were concerned that if the borough went back to a five-day work week and closed at 4:30 p.m., they would be unable to conduct borough business with the shortened hours due to work schedules.

The borough moved to a four-day work after a trial that began on June 20, 2008. It was initially part of a program called the "Going Green Schedule," where Borough Administrator Ted Ehrenburg sought to use less electricity and gas on the part of borough employees who would not be using the utilities on the fifth day if they were not in the office.

Huntley said Tuesday that contractual employees have already been notified and Borough Clerk Jane McCarthy asked that non-contractual employees also be issued notice in writing.
