Borough Plans For Struble Avenue Repairs

Borough administrator said money is being put aside to repair roadway.

The Borough of Butler has a plan for repairing road conditions on Struble Avenue and has been setting money aside through a developer's agreement to fix both the surface of the road and main issues underneath.

Cleary Avenue resident Sandy Bruno approached the Tuesday to ask if anything can be done about the road.

"Struble Avenue is in horrific shape," she said, describing potholes, brittle roadway and sewer main breaks.

"Everything you said is correct," Councilman Bob Fox, chairman of the borough Roads Committee, said.

Borough Administrator James Lampmann said he had personally spoken to several neighbors in the area of Struble Avenue and that they had agreed that rather than simply re-paving the road, it would be more advantageous for the borough and the residents to work on replacing the main on Struble from Morse Avenue to Cleary Avenue and then take care of the road surface.

Once the borough does select an engineer for the project, Lampmann said about two weeks-worth of work is entailed in repairing the road, but Lampmann said the time and money spent will be well worth it.

"It will be a much-improved road surface," he said.

The current condition of the road is so bad Lampmann said the borough needs to complete repairs in order to plow Struble, although resident Pete Stagg praised the Butler Department of Public Works for the hard work they've done in ensuring safety of residents and drivers who need to use the road. No specific timeline was provided for when the project may begin.

Correction: A previous version of this story said repairs would be done from Morris Avenue when it is Morse Avenue.
