Butler Intersection Improvements Unlikely

Pedestrian safety still a concern of resident, council.

Despite continued concerns over pedestrian safety at the intersection of Route 23 and Kiel Avenue, further safety improvements in the area will likely not be considered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), according to the Suburban Trends.

The Trends reported that Cascade Way resident Bob Norman approached the on Aug. 21 to ask whether a footbridge could be created at the intersection. Norman has also asking if cameras could be installed on traffic lights at the intersection, as many cars are making illegal left turns, he said.

The borough for safety improvements in that area, including a new speed countdown meter which tells pedestrians when it is safe to walk. But Borough Administrator James Lampmann said he has had conversations with the DOT and further improvements are not likely, according to the Trends.
