Butler Police Department Receives State Accreditation

Program recognizes best practices in law enforcement nationwide

The Butler Police Department has just received Accreditation status from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

The status was finalized on Thursday, November 10, and represents significant professional achievement by acknowledging the department's implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and considered the best practices for policing within law enforcement nationwide.

The Butler Police Department is one of only six police agencies to have achieved the prestigious State Accredited status. CALEA is one of three agencies nationally recognized within Morris County.

Chief Edward Card launched the Accreditation program in December 2008, assisted by the entire department staff. Benefits the department has delivered through this program include controlled liability costs, greater agency accountability and enhanced services to the Borough’s citizens.
