Candidates Donate Pet Food to Shelter

Animals were evacuated during tropical storm.

John D’Amato and Ray Yazdi, candidates for , donated $400 worth of pet food to (BASS) President, Ellen Ribitzki, on Monday afternoon.

The shelter, located on Brandt Lane in Bloomingdale, has been plagued by animals during Hurricane Irene. D’Amato, a former chief of the who has been at the shelter for several pump-out operations, said, “After spending time at the shelter, it’s easy to see how the BASS volunteers become so attached to the animals in their care. Their dedication to finding good homes for these cats and dogs is amazing.”

Yazdi agreed and added that he and his wife, Diane, had gotten his mother-in-law’s cat, Magic, from the shelter earlier this year.

“She loves that cat. It’s the perfect companion for her,” he said.
