Clothing Donation Bins Yielding Revenue For Kinnelon

Councilman says the more clothes that are donated, the more revenue for the borough.

A set of new clothing donation bins stored at the Kinnelon Department of Public Works (DPW) facility are already yielding revenue for the borough as Councilman Gary Moleta said Kinnelon received a check for $3,600 from American Recycling Technologies (ART) after they were installed.

Moleta reached out to ART about the bins after the borough council amended its clothing donation bins ordinance to allow for-profit entities to have clothing donation bins in the borough.

"We also get money for the amount of clothes we take in," Moleta said at the council's regular meeting in May. The borough will also receive money from tonnage as a result of the bins.

"Everything contained in those bins comes back to the town," he said.

Moleta said that in the future, the borough could possibly look into putting more clothing donation bins in other locations throughout Kinnelon.
