I-287, Changebridge, More Rt. 46 Open

Should make getting around easier, but some roads still closed.

Changebridge Road between Stiles and Woodmont road and northbound Route 287 are now fully open, as are more lanes of Route 46, officials said.

The Department of Transportation has cleared construction on Route 287 due to a partial collapse of the road near exit 44.

The shoulder collapsed due to erosion from the surging Rockaway River after Hurricane Irene and officials were concerned about the stability of the road. The road closed on Monday. One lane re-opened Wednesday. The state announced the right and center lanes of the highway were open around 4 a.m. Thursday.

One lane of eastbound Route 46 from South Beverwyck Road to New Road is open, Parsippany police announed around 8 a.m. All of eastbound Route 46 to eastbound Route 80 also is open.

According to a regularly updated list on the Montville Township website, the following roads in town still were closed as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Hook Mountain Road
  • Horseneck Road at Pine Brook Rd/Hook Mountain Rd intersection (local traffic only from Changebridge Road)
  • Bloomfield Avenue into West Caldwell
  • Horseneck Road into Fairfield
  • Stiles Lane / Vail Road into Lake Hiawatha

Montville Township did a great job keeping residents advised of the road closings during and after Irene's hit. The web-site was updated frequently and was a help for residents attempting to get in and out of the Township.

Web sites only work if you have Internet and electric. In a 500 year storm, I would hope other methods were employed.
