Kinnelon 'Field of Freedom' Donation Deadline Nearing

Borough will post donated flags outside Kinnelon Municipal Building during Memorial Day parade.

The deadline for donations for Kinnelon's first "Field of Freedom" display is approaching April 30 and organizers are asking those wishing to purchase a flag to get orders in soon.

"Each 3' x 5' American flag will stand 8 feet tall and proudly fly in front of Kinnelon’s Borough Hall from Memorial Day Weekend through Flag Day on June 14," the flier sent out by the "Field of Freedom" Committee said. "Visitors will be invited to walk among the flags and pay tribute to the men and woman whom you have chosen to honor."

The donation cost for each flag is $35, with proceeds going to Reserve Aid and America's Vet Dogs. Each flag should be dedicated to a veteran, although the committee noted that those being honored do not need to be from the borough.

After the flags are taken down following the events, they will be made available for pickup and will be the donors' to keep.

The Tri-boro Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 27 and will be followed in Kinnelon with a wreath-laying ceremony. Those interested in making a flag donation for the "Field of Freedom" should email fieldoffreedom@gmail.com
