Kinnelon Seeks Help With Water on Kinnelon Road

Water floods entire lane of roadway.

Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins reported Thursday that the ongoing efforts to solve a flooding problem on a portion of Kinnelon Road has been "a source of frustration."

Water covers an entire lane of the road, causing motorists coming from Kinnelon to drive in the left lane for the portion of the road that is flooded.

Collins said that the borough sought help from Morris County, as the road is a county road, and that the county business administrator visited the site, along with Borough Engineer

Across the street from the area that is flooded is a water reservoir and dam.

"The height of the dam has been raised," Collins said Thursday.

Collins said the engineer determined that the water height is higher than the drainage height, which is less than five feet high. As a result, the county has said they do not have jurisdiction over the area, rather the property owner whose property abuts the area is responsible.

"We're relying right now on the property owner to do the right thing," Collins said.

If the property owner does not correct the drainage issue, Collins said the borough could take legal action as the water is causing a safety hazard to drivers on the road.
