Kinnelon to Benefit From Freight Rail Grant
State Department of Transportation announces $11.4 million will be spent on road, aviation and freight rail projects.
The is expected to benefit from an $875,032 New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) grant for railroad track repairs to the New York Susquehanna & Western Railroad line.
The grant, which was announced Thursday by Gov. Chris Christie's administration, is included amongst 25 grants totaling $11.4 million for infrastructure improvements in the state. In Morris County alone, a $609,750 grant was announced for repairs to the Dover & Rockaway Railroad in addition to the New York Susquehanna & Western Railroad grant affecting Kinnelon, Jefferson and Rockaway.
The New York Susquehanna & Western Railroad also runs through the , but repairs to the tracks in Butler were not included in the announcement. Railroad track repair work will include replacing and removing railroad ties, strengthening rail bridges and installing new track and switches.

Other grants included in the $11.4 million will fund airport security enhancements at the Trenton-Mercer Airport, an aircraft apron at the Sky Manor Airport and a grant for a fuel tank self-service system and security fencing at the Central Jersey Airport. In Hopewell and Upper Deerfield Townships, in Cumberland County, road infrastructure improvements to drainage systems, a railroad crossing and boardwalk are to be completed with grant money.
“The range of these grants illustrate how diverse modes of travel give shape to New Jersey’s robust transportation network,” NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson said. “These grants promote air, rail and vehicular transportation, each of which plays a role in driving our economy. The Local Aid Infrastructure Fund grants allow municipalities and counties to make vital improvements to streets without burdening local property taxpayers.”
