No Trick-or-Treating in Kinnelon, Butler Monday

Officials in both postpone trick-or-treating until Friday. Bloomingdale not pushing it back.

and officials are asking the boroughs' parents and children not to go trick-or-treating on Monday and instead observe Halloween on Friday. Bloomingdale has decided to keep trick-or-treating on Halloween itself.

Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins said Sunday night that he and the council decided to postpone the annual event in the borough for safety reasons as a result of

"We're concerned about the safety of the kids and we want to make sure they have a great time on the holiday that was unfortunately somewhat compromised by weather," he said.

Butler will be having a celebration on Halloween itself, as a Fun Fest will be held tonight at the Carey Avenue Firehouse from 3:30 to 7.

Council President Jim Freda sent a message to those subscribed to the Kinnelon Recreation email alert system notifying residents of the postponement Sunday night.

"This move is for the safety of the children and their families in our borough. There are too many wires and trees down throughout Kinnelon. There is also a majority of homes in Kinnelon that still have no power," Freda said.

Collins said since restoring power to the many homes without it remains the top priority of the borough at this time, he thought it best to move the holiday to a day when the kids could truly enjoy it.

"Hopefully the community will step up and hand out candy on a different day," he said.
