Police Investigate Break-In at Bloomingdale Animal Shelter

Animal control officer said items were removed from shed and tossed on property.

are investigating an apparent break-in at the on Brandt Lane Saturday in which several small items appeared to have been removed from a shed on the property and tossed around the area.

As of the beginning of this month, the is now operating the shelter and Bloomingdale Regional Animal Shelter Society (BASS)

Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at the shelter Saturday shortly before 6 p.m., when Animal Control Officer Kaitlyn Kopshaw said she believed someone had damaged the lock on the gate to the facility and moved the items from the unlocked shed, police said. Kopshaw said she had been at the shelter two hours earlier and that she did not notice the items moved at that time.

Police said that although the shed may have been entered, there were no signs of forced entry to the locked buildings at the facility and that the lock appeared intact. Anyone with information should contact police at 973-838-0158.
