I think that banners about community events add to the sense of community and even to the historic flavor of Mendham

As a life long resident of Mendham I would love to see fewer visual distractions around our beautiful town. For one, if It it has been scientifically proven that glancing at a text on a cell phone is a distraction to a driver then craning out the window to read all the information crammed onto a banner must also be a danger. In addition We are destroying the archeitectual integrity of our landscape on a weekly basis. There is also the environmental impact of all of these plastic signs being displayed..Finally let's also not forget that as taxpayers we pay for the time spent by our fantastic Public Works department as they climb up and down putting up and taking down these signs. I suspect they would rather spend their time doing what we hired them to do...and that is make our town look more beautiful. With that being said I often hate when people shoot down an idea without suggesting a better idea to achieve the same goal...So here goes. Let's utilize the flag holders that we installed on either side of Main Street. Let organizations that hold annual functions design flags to advertise to be approved by the Town Council. They can be recycled year after year...Folks have plenty of places to then look up specific information on these events. (ie.. Mendham/Chester Patch, Mendham Boro.org or Mendham/Chester Online) Th is will inturn reduce the amout of distraction while driving

I agree with geri bain . Mendham Borough is very historical and the town has done a nice job putting in place certain guidelines for businesses to follow. But there comes a point where to much is too much. Next it will be all the modern fancy cars take away from the historic value of the town when they are parked on the street. Regulations are necessary for any town but too much is too much. The banners should stay and it is not like they are all over the place.

I think the council should worry about more important things....like councilmen doing business with the Borough.
