Poll: Which Project Should Butler Have Submitted Grant Application For?

Council decides on Boonton Avenue water main replacement project.

At the meeting Tuesday, Borough Administrator James Lampmann told the council that the deadline for grant applications under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was approaching in the beginning of January and asked the council which project they would like to submit an application for. The council unanimously decided to apply for a grant for a water main replacement project on Boonton Avenue.

Lampmann made three recommendations for projects. One of the criteria considered in applications is the percentage of low-or-moderate income families the project could affect.

The three projects Lampmann suggested to the council were a water main replacement project on Boonton Avenue from Brook Street to near the Butler Arms apartment complex, a water main replacement project on Carey Avenue and repairs to the water treatment plant. Lampmann also said the maximum grant award is for $80,000 and the water treatment plant repairs could cost more than that amount.

"It sounds like the most advantageous is the one on Boonton Avenue," Mayor Bob Alviene said.

Councilman Bob Fox said he thinks the first priority should be the water main replacement project on Boonton Avenue and the second priority should be the Carey Avenue project.
