Veterans Day Ceremony at Sloan Park

Mayor honors men and women in uniform for making strides in the name of freedom.

Brisk temperatures and a somber mood greeted veterans, military personnel, officials, and guests who gathered at Sloan Park Friday morning. A salute to the American flag was followed by a moving tribute by Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy commemorating the sacrifices and strides made by men and women in uniform in the name of freedom.

Dunleavy spoke about the Armistice Agreement that ended World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. He also presented a resolution proclaiming the day an official holiday in the Borough of Bloomingdale.

Speakers included Bloomingdale Borough Clerk, Jane McCarthy, Rev. Marjorie Erickson, Neil Erickson and Adam Charman, a veteran, Commander of the American Legion, and member of the VFW.
