A Closer Look at the Martha B. Day Autism Preschool Program

Students receive one-on-one instruction in small classroom setting.

April may have been Autism Awareness Month, but every month, the students and teachers at the are aware of a unique classroom down the hall, where children with Autism are beginning to develop life skills at an early age.

The school offers a Preschool With Autism program, where students learn verbal and non-verbal skills that include identifying people, places and things, learning to use the bathroom, learning to use computers and more. The class is taught by Jessica Cohen, but each student works one-on-one every day with their own teacher on projects and tasks.

Anjalee Nirgudkar, a behavior analyst with the district, comes to the school several times a year to monitor students' progress.
