'Bad Parents' Scenes to Be Filmed in Bloomingdale Sunday

Independent movie starring Janeane Garofalo to be shot with field backdrop.

Several well-known celebrities are expected to be on set at the field Sunday as the film crew of "Bad Parents" continues filming the independent movie in Bloomingdale.

The film is a comedy based on the play "It's All About the Kids" about the obsessive parents of a girls youth soccer team in a suburban town. The movie was written and is being directed by Ridgewood resident Caytha Jentis and is starring Janeane Garofalo, Cheri Oteri, Kristen Johnston, Chris Titus, Michael Boatman, Rebecca Budig, Reigo Aylesworth and more. Production began in Ridgewood on Oct. 8.

"This is such an exciting event for our town," said Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy. "And I hope it generates more interest from the industry down the road."

Lynn Ferrara, Bloomingdale's liaison to the Passaic County Film Commission, said this is the first project she has worked on to bring a movie production to the borough.

“Bloomingdale is a great small town that has so many beautiful and unique locations to offer the film industry,” she said.

In September, the Bloomingdale Council a $1,000-per day filming fee to allow the directors to film the movie in Bloomingdale.

"If we don't, they'll go somewhere else," Dunleavy said at the meeting, adding that he is hoping that by attracting Bad Parents, LLC, the production company working on the film, other filmmakers will see what Bloomingdale has to offer.

In conjunction with the council, Ferrara said the also agreed to allow the film's producers to use the . Ferrara said Jim Curran, head of the Bloomingdale Public Schools custodial department, has agreed to make accommodations for the all-day filming taking place at the school Sunday and resident and President of the B&B United Soccer Club Ray Yazdi has taken measures to groom the area, including personally lining the fields. Yazdi also met with producers to talk about the logistics of staging a realistic soccer game on Sunday, Ferrara said.
