UPDATE: Bloomingdale BOE Approves New Interim Superintendent

Buglione to work three days per week, pending approval by executive county superintendent.

Bloomingdale Public Schools has a new interim superintendent.

The approved the hiring of Frank Buglione at its June 25 meeting and he began working in the district Monday. But this is the second board approval in the past two months of an interim superintendent for the 2012-13 school year.

In May, the , a former Rockaway school district superintendent. Vitta's contract was also sent to the county superintendent for review.

At the May 21 meeting, to approve the hiring of Vitta, who was the subject of a 1997 lawsuit that alleged he had sexually harassed female employees of the school district he was working in at the time. The lawsuit was dismissed by the School Ethics Commission and Dr. Terrance Brennan, Bloomingdale's interim superintendent for the 2011-12 school year, defended Vitta and said the allegations were "unfounded."

School district Business Administrator George Hagl confirmed Monday that Vitta withdrew his application while it was pending review by the county superintendent.

Buglione was approved as Bloomingdale's new interim superintendent by the board at a $519.23 per diem rate. Board President Lauren Grecco has said the district would only be considering an interim superintendent for the upcoming school year for financial reasons.

Buglione retired from the Rahway school district in 2010 after 38 years with the district, according to NJ.com.
