Butler, Bloomingdale Schools Continuing to Work Together

Interim superintendent said districts may save on costs of implementing teacher evaluation program.

During his first meeting, new spoke about continuing the ways the Butler and Bloomingdale school districts can work together as the districts head into a new school year.

Buglione said he has had conversations with Superintendent Mario Cardinale about implementing one of the state's four recommended methods of teacher evaluations. Each school district has until December to implement a teacher evaluation method, Buglione said, but working with Butler to choose a method that fits both districts may be beneficial.

"We can maybe save on the costs of the resources there," he said.

Additionally, Buglione said he would like to form a committee in the district with teachers, volunteers, principals, board members and parents to assist with choosing the method.

In general, Buglione was optimistic about the relationship between the Butler and Bloomingdale school districts and the opportunities it will bring in the future.

"I think there will be a lot more partnering going forward," he said.

Board Member Sheldon Bross, who sits as a Bloomingdale liaison on the Butler Board of Education, was pleased to hear this.

"My dream is that we can work together with Butler because the redundancy, the reptition is insane," Bross said.

Particularly in the area of curriculum, Bross said he is hopeful that the two districts can become more unified. Bross mentioned computer programming and the opportunities available for students and said he is hopeful that the students of both districts can be given the best possible education in that area, as well as others.

According to Bross, the two districts are expected to be learning under the same general curriculum by the end of the school year. But Bross also said that if a program or initiative is being implemented by one of the districts, the other district should consider implementing it as well.

"We really have to latch on to that and evolve into the modern age," Bross said. "If they're doing something, we should latch on to it."

Bross noted that, in the past, the Bloomingdale and Butler boards of education did not get along well and said that the relationship between the entities is now a positive one. Bross said he hopes to see the good relationship continue.
