Wayne Merckling will retire as principal in February.

A group of supporters, including teachers, is lobbying for Kinnelon High School Assistant Principal Matthew Scanlon to become the school’s next principal.

Faculty members filled a Board of Education meeting Nov. 21 to express their support for Scanlon getting the job, NorthJersey.com reported.

Principal Wayne Merckling, who has been principal of the school since July 2006, is set to retire in February 2014. Officials are interviewing applicants for the position.

I am all for promoting from within, but there is a big difference in being the assistant as to being the MAN. He should be give the Interim Principal, and let him earn the full title. That would be the wish move.
