Gurbisz Appointed to Bloomingdale BOE

Former board member to assume role until spring.

Cathy Gurbisz was appointed by board members to the Monday night.

Gurbisz is a previous board of education member, serving between April 2004 through July 2006, and will be filling the vacancy left by Karen Peterson, who resigned in November.

The mother of three children who have been or are currently in the school system has lived in the borough for 22 years with her husband.

"If I am selected for this position, I promise to work toward the best possible educational decisions, combined with responsible financial considerations for the students, staff and residents of Bloomingdale," Gurbisz wrote in her letter of interest submitted to the board before her appointment.

In particular, Gurbisz wrote that she is interested in assisting with preparation of the 2012 Budget, teacher negotiations and professional development.

Gurbisz has a bachelor's degree in accounting and over 26 years of experience in the accounting and financial field. She currently works as an accounting supervisor for Greenwood Abatement.

Gurbisz's appointment is valid through the school board election in April.
