Incumbents to Run for Bloomingdale BOE

Four seats available in November election.

Several members indicated their intentions to run for re-election Tuesday as the deadline to file nominating petitions was at 4 p.m.

The Bloomingdale school district Business Administrator George Hagl said four members' seats would be open in the November election. Board President Lauren Grecco, Board Vice President John Pituch and Thomas Kroncke told Tri-Boro Patch they plan to run again for their seats.

The fourth seat is currently occupied by Cathy Gurbisz, who previously served on the board from April 2004 through July 2006 and to fill a vacancy left by Karen Peterson.

Gurbisz was not immediately available to say whether she will seek re-election. The Passaic County Clerk also said the information on whether any new candidates will run was not immediately available.

This year is the first that will have school board elections in November after  to be tied with the general election.

According to the New Jersey School Boards Association, 468 school districts from throughout the state, representing more than 85 percent of the state's elected school boards, voted to move school board elections to Nov. 6.

"Serving on a school board is a challenging and rewarding form of public service,” John Bulina, NJSBA president, said in a press release. “It certainly is one way to make a profound impact on your community.”
