Connor Horton, a student attending Kinnelon High School, has been named a semifinalist in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Horton is one of 1.5 million high school juniors who earned a chance to receive one of 8,000 National Merit Scholarship worth about $35 million. Students earn the chance for a scholarship based how they scored on the 2012 Preliminary SAT.
Less than one percent of high school seniors are named semifinalists.
A pool of 15,00 finalists will compete for the scholarships. Recipients will be announced between April and July 2014.
