Kinnelon Offense Struggles In Opening Loss

Down 7-3 at halftime, Colts football can't muster comeback to start season.

Austin Brown scored three rushing touchdowns for Hopatcong to help the Chiefs to a 21-3 road victory against Kinnelon at Fred Morse Field.

The Colts offense was dangerous at times in the first half but suffered three costly turnovers. The team trailed at halftime by just four points, 7-3, thanks to an Evan Argiriou 29-yard field goal in the second quarter.

A comeback, however, wasn’t in Friday night’s forecast as Kinnelon was held scoreless in the second half.

IN SHORT

The Colts offense never got on track and couldn't overcome three first-half turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble). Kinnelon’s defense kept things close on the scoreboard for three quarters before Brown’s two rushing scores in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

THEY SAID IT

"We’ve been a very good offensive team all preseason and tonight we just never really got on track. We never got in rhythm and that is attributed to Hopatcong. They really ganged up on us and made it difficult for us to get the timing down in the passing game.” –Kinnelon head coach Kevin White
