Kinnelon Plans for Snow Day Makeups

Board establishes days off in event snow days go unused.

Something has been missing this winter: it's white, it's cold and it sometimes gives students a day out of school.

Many students may be feeling antsy with the lack of snow days this year, but the approved a policy to give those days back to the students in May, depending on "if things continue the way they have been going" Superintendent Jim Opiekun said.

If there is one unused snow day, the day off will be May 25; two unused snowdays, May 25 and May 29; and three unused snow days, May 25, May 29 and May 30.

"As of Feb. 22, there are three unused snow days. Since we cannot deduct days from the end of the school calendar we traditionally 'give back' these days," Board Member Marianne DeAlessi read from the policy.

The policy also notes that "plans that cannot be changed should not be made during the projected vacation period."
