Kinnelon School District Undecided About Spending Additional Aid

Decision on how to spend additional money would not be made by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.

remains undecided on how the district will spend the additional aid promised by Gov. Chris Christie last week.

The Kinnelon school district will be receiving an additional $322,824 on top of the $322,824 increase over the governor's budgeted $557,186 in 2010-2011. The district was slated to receive a total of $880,010 in aid for 2011-2012, but will now be receiving $1,202,834.

School districts were originally expected to report whether they would be using the money for tax relief by 4 p.m. Tuesday. But Business Administrator Alice Robinson said not enough board members were available to make a decision by the deadline.

"We did not have a meeting and, therefore, it's my understanding that if we were going to use it for tax relief, it had to be [reported] by 4 p.m. today," said Robinson. Robinson said she could not comment on what the money could be used for if not tax relief.

Butler Public Schools additional aid they are receiving for capital improvement projects and use $43,792 for tax relief spread out over the next two years. decided they are receiving for tax relief, but have not yet decided what to spend the money on.
