Bloomingdale Students May Get New Computers, Books

Budget amount and tax rate not yet determined.

After submitting their preliminary budget to the Passaic County superintendent before the March 5 deadline, the has already begun making some of the changes the county requested, according to Bloomingdale Public Schools Business Administrator George Hagl.

Hagl said since the county has requested changes, a total budget number and the tax rate figures are not yet available. However, Hagl was able to comment on some things included in the 2012-2013 school year budget.

"We're going to be addressing some of our building needs," Hagl said.

Several capital projects will be included, as discussed at the board's Feb. 9 meeting. Those projects include roof and underground repairs to the , asbestos tile removal at the schools and more.

One repair project that was left out of this year's budget, Hagl said, is the replacement of school lockers at the . Another request to launch a running program at the middle school was also left out from the tentative budget.

The district is planning to purchase two new 16-passenger school buses and as far as equipment, Hagl said the district is planning to purchase 60 new computers to be used in computer labratories at the Martha B. Day and Walter T. Bergen Schools. The older computers that are still functioning will be used in classrooms that do not currently have computers.

"All programs are going to remain in place and we're looking to get some textbooks for the Walter T. Bergen School," Hagl said.

Additionally, Hagl said the budget allows for the district to purchase four new Smartboards, three for the Walter T. Bergen School and one for the Samuel R. Donald School.
