'Next Great Baker' Star Inspires Butler Students

Marissa Lopez visits the Aaron Decker School.

The second- and fourth-graders at had a sweet treat on April 24. They had a special visit from Marissa Lopez, winner of "The Next Great Baker."

Lopez won the contest after baking a winning cake that "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro had judged. She is now a current employee at , in Hoboken, and can be seen on Cake Boss. 

Marissa talked about her climb to the top and how baking and decorating is another art form students can aspire to. She also discussed her win on "The Next Great Baker" and answered many questions from the students.

Fourth graders had previously made a New Jersey Cake with art teacher Tracey Salvatore, while second Graders were designing their own “Buggy Cupcakes” with art teacher Alyssa Grosso. The students were very excited to meet a celebrity from New Jersey; it was a great real world connection linking their own attempts with the art form!
