Teachers of the Year Chosen in Butler

Three teachers honored at Butler Board of Education meeting Monday.

has chosen its teachers of the year and honored them at Monday's board of education meeting.

One teacher was chosen each from the elementary, middle and high school and honored with a certificate and kind words by their building principals at the meeting.

teacher Melanie Gashler was honored for putting in extra effort, and hours, to complete her job. Principal Virginia Scala said Gashler was willing to switch grade levels several times and that she does "hours and hours of prep work," often leaving the school late and coming in early.

"She's just always, always thinking about Aaron Decker," Scala said.

At , Principal Andrea Vladichak spoke about Lyn Casaleggio, who was the chosen teacher of the year. Casaleggio teaches band at the school, as she has for the past 12 years, and Vladichak commended her on getting so many students involved. Currently, more than one third of the school population is involved in the music program, Vladichak said.

Principal Martin Wall read aloud comments collected for Elena Bocchino, the chosen teacher from the high school. Bocchino has taught vocal music at the high school for many years and Wall said she also spends countless hours after school preparing for the students.

"[Bocchino is] a teacher that takes the invisible student and gives them a voice," he said.
