Three Butler Students Honored at BOE Meeting

Three students from Butler were awarded for achievements in art, geography, and music on Monday.

meeting on Monday focused on the proposed 2011-2012 budget, but before presenting the numbers to borough residents, the board took some time to appreciate the accomplishments of some of Butler’s most exemplary students.

The first student to be honored was fourth-grader Kaila Hermann of the , a winner of the Morris County Council of Education Associations’ 2011 poster contest. Hermann’s winning poster, which read, “In my school students succeed because we have nice teachers to help us,” was turned into a calendar for the upcoming school year.

Also honored was William Hanisch, a seventh-grader who will compete with 99 other fourth-through-eighth grade New Jersey students at Rowan University for the National Geographic Bee.

Band Director Lyn Casaleggio announced that eighth grade musician Mark Bufanio, who plays multiple instruments, has made the Jr. Region Band for the alto clarinet.

Casaleggio also announced that seventh grade pianist was named Morris County Music Student of the Month, but Heyburn was not present, so he will be honored at a future Board of Education meeting.

Heyburn has been a musician since second grade, studies both jazz and classical music, and also plays the trombone. Casaleggio noted that both Heyburn and Bufanio are hard-working musicians who are into what they do.

The three students who were honored gathered with family, educators, and administrators for a group picture at the meeting.
