BBYC Homecoming Highlighted by Historic Game

B Squad ties with Ringwood, 53-53.

On Saturday, the Butler and Bloomingdale Youth Club (BBYC) hosted the Ringwood Rattlers on new Memorial Field. BBYC honored its eighth graders who will be graduating out of the program at the end of the season.

The day's games started with the D squad Bulldogs trying to contain the potent Ringwood offense, but they fell short, 26-14. Both BBYC's and Ringwood's C squads were trying to get to 5-0 on the season and the Rattlers managed to muscle past the Bulldogs to get to that goal, winning 26-6.

After an epic B squad game, the eighth grade cheerleaders and football players were recognized in a pre-game ceremony for their years with the BBYC/BYO/Bulter Jr. Bulldog programs. But that emotional lift wasn't enough to push past Ringwood, as the A squad fought hard but came up short, 26-14.

The most intense part of the evening was provided by the BBYC and Ringwood B squad teams, who played an unprecedented offensive shoot out. The game, which, after double overtime ended up a tie at 53-53, is believed to be the most points ever scored in a UCJFL game.

This offensive showdown was fueled on the BBYC side by Sean Centinaro, who had over 200 yards rushing, over 100 yards receiving and another 36 yards in kick off returns, resulting in over 350 yards of total offense and 8 touchdowns.

While quarterback Declan Minogue was sharp, completing 7 of 8 passes, it was Joe Bastante who provided the long passing threat, throwing for 120 yards and two of Centinaro's touchdowns. Bastante was also key on defense, with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery, as was Centinaro, who had seven tackles, and Steven Schubert, also with seven tackles.
