Girls Track Earns Sectional Title

Eight top three finishes leads Kinnelon to championship.

Fueled by eight top three finishes, the Kinnelon High School girls track team took home a North Jersey Group I, Section I state title on Saturday as they earned 78-points overall to best second place finishers Mountain Lakes and Hasbrouck Heights by five points, according to NJ.com.

First Place

Kinnelon took home two individual titles on Saturday, as Desiree McDonald earned a title in the shot put with a throw of 34-feet-one-inch and Theresa Vargo, Johanna Goergen, Kristin Burnham and Morgan Redmond teamed up for a first place finish in the 1600-meter relay.

Second Place

Kinnelon’s Carmela Pagliarulo came in second place in the shot put, as her toss of 32-feet-6-and-one-quarter inches came up less than two feet shorter than that of her teammate. Goergen and Redmond each added a silver medal to their successful day as Goergen finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.71, and Redmond finished the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 1:05.82.

Third Place

Kinnelon also saw members earn bronze medals in three events as Redmond grabbed her third and fourth medals with third place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter run. Nicole Caci also earned a third place finish in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:04.42.
