Kinnelon Bats Propel Colts Over Parsippany in Xtreme Softball Tourney

Game ended after Kinnelon scored enough runs to invoke mercy rule.

The North Jersey Baseball and Softball League Kinnelon Colts 14U softball team won the Kinnelon Xtreme 14U Tournament with a commanding 10-2 win over the Parsippany ICE at Kinnelon Recreation Park in Butler last Friday, according to a Youth1 report.

Both the Colts and the ICE went into the championship game with a 4-0 record in tournament play.

Despite the lopsided score, strong performances were shown by both teams' pitchers: The Colts' Alexa Saccomanno, and Parsippany’s Caitlin Brennan and relievers Jenna Waldsteadt and Nicole Ruggiero.

Kinnelon had the hottest bats, thanks to Saccomanno, Lainey Lewis, Maddy Ledwith, Daniella Burnett and Jessie Ratz. Emily Carlos and Elisa Feola of the ICE showed their stuff in the fourth inning of the five-inning game, both hitting RBI singles that put Parsippany's only runs on the scoreboard.

The game also featured strong defensive play by ICE  infielder Waldsteadt and center fielder Carlos.

But Parsippany's efforts came up short, Youth1 reported: In the bottom of the fifth, the Colts scored their ninth and 10th runs, invoking the tournament's eight-run mercy rule.

The champion 14U Kinnelon Colts include Julia Balick, Haley Angelica, Alexa Saccomanno, Daniella Burnett, Sam Schwed, Lainey Lewis, Sierra Jacko, Maddy Ledwith, Calais Cronin, Jessie Ratz, and Brooke Jacko.
