La Penta Drives in 3, Scores Twice as Butler Blasts Kinnelon

Three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings fuel unbeaten Butler.

The softball team moved to 2-0 on the season by keeping rival at bay throughout a cold afternoon with a 10-4 victory on Friday.

IN SHORT
Butler pitcher Kayla Logan pitched all seven innings, striking out six batters while her catcher Cara Cronin threw out three would-be base stealers to cut short Kinnelon scoring chances. The Bulldogs used three different three-run innings to keep Kinnelon at arm's length.

The shortstop went 3-for-4 with a double while scoring two runs, adding three RBIs and also made her presence felt in the field.

La Penta capped the scoring in the second inning with her single, then added a single and double in the fourth and fifth innings that brought home runners. She scored in her final two trips on base that gave Butler a big cushion.

COLT OF THE GAME
Rachel Pleggi—She went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. She had a 2-RBI single that put the Colts up 2-1 in the second inning, then moved the runners further along the basepaths with her single in the sixth during the Colts' scoring rally.

Mikayla Mulligan (Butler), 2-for-3 with a double and a walk; Kayla Logan (Butler), 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored; Sarah Galese (Kinnelon) 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.
