Senior Captain Orrin Main Leads Colts Lacrosse Defense

From a lacrosse stick to a football, Main always has athletics on his mind and in his hands.

After winning a Morris County title with the in 2010, senior long-stick defender Orrin Main is set to lead a young Colts group to what they hope to be a successful 2011 campaign.

While the Colts lost 15 seniors from last season, including 12 key contributors, Main is the only constant on the Colts backline this year and Head Coach Kevin Kelly is confident that the senior captain is more than capable of commanding the new-look Colts defense.

A proven ability to lead and a hard-nosed defensive approach has earned Main a spot in this week's Athlete Spotlight.

Q: How long have you been playing lacrosse?

A: I’ve been playing lacrosse since the sixth grade.

Q: What do you like most about lacrosse?

A: I really like the fast pace of lacrosse and how you have to always think on your feet.

Q: Who are your biggest influences?

A: All of the kids that I’ve been on the varsity team with. A kid who graduated a few years ago, Chris Zybrick, he was a real big influence on me. He’s always been real good and he plays at Rutgers now.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a player?

A: I would probably have to say the Morris County Championship game last year.

Q: What other sports do you play?

A: I’m also a defensive end for the football team.

Q: What do you do off the field?

A: I like to train in the weight room and run, but I try to keep my lacrosse stick in my hand as often as I can.

Q: Any other talents besides sports?

A: I like snowboarding a lot and I’m pretty good at it.

Q: What do expect to see from your team this season?

A: We’ve got a lot of potential and we work really hard. We just have to get our fundamentals down and learn the game a little more and then we’ll start playing at a high level. I think we’re capable of winning a Morris County title again this season and hopefully make it to states again.

SHOUT OUTS

Head Coach Kevin Kelly: “He’s the only returning defensive player who saw any time last season. We have two sophomores playing right now and two juniors who just played JV last season, so he’s really the only one back there with it. He’s the key to bringing everything together for us.”
