Once considered more valuable than diamonds, amethyst is a member of the quartz family, occurring naturally as crystals within rocks. These gemstones are found in the United States, Brazil, Canada, Australia, India, Madagascar, Russia and many other countries.
February's purple birthstone has been found among the possessions of royalty throughout the ages. The intense amethyst shade appealed to early monarchs because they often wore this color. Purple dye was scarce and expensive at one time, and so it was reserved for the garments of the royal household. Peasants most frequently wore beige, brown or drab colors. Amethyst has been found in ruins dating as far back as the ninth century, adorning crowns, scepters and jewelry. A large amethyst is in the British Crown Jewels which is closely guarded.

Amethyst is a crystal of protection and has the power to overcome difficulty, stress, anxiety and indecision. I personally use it for added energy in tarot because it also gives off the positive energy of making decisions, relaxing and using common sense. It amplifies contact with spirit guides and the higher self. It generates wisdom, guidance, direction and clear thinking in personal affairs. It answers questions and helps one make rational decisions. It also helps the endocrine and immune systems so is a good stone for overall health protection.
Whether or not amethyst holds such power, it’s up to you to figure it out. Being a certified crystal therapist, I have been working with crystals for many, many years and believe in the power of crystals. You will never know if they work for you unless you try them out for yourself.

Valentine’s Day should be a lot of fun, even if you may be spending it with friends (if you are single) or with your partner. You refuse to take this celebration lying down! You seem rather dynamic and expressive now although there are many secrets behind your bright eyes. You will be introduced to many new friends and adventures. While being tired of the humdrum life, you are now seeking fun, excitement and leisure activities. Arians are interested in traveling, taking new classes (possibly including some exercise classes) and finding out about subjects that they just have not had time to look into. Some may even start or finish college and/or get new certifications or training in some area. Your energy levels fluctuate; however, you are busy doing so many things that you don’t even realize you are tired until you get home and plop on the couch in front of the TV! So much is going on in your life that it would be helpful to have a list of things that you want to accomplish and work on them a little each day; otherwise, you may have great intentions, but get little accomplished.
TAURUS: April 19 – May 19
You need to express yourself a little bit more to those who love you. Secrets are all well and good at times, but this is not one of those times to keep things inside as some feelings need to be shared with others; this will make you feel better. You are super-sensitive at the moment and although luck is following close behind you, there is just too much to do for you to notice how well your life is really going. Your temperament is much more balanced than in the recent past. Your romantic relationship should be improving tremendously on all levels and although your career or vocation may be in question, the changes coming your way are imperative in order to push you on the right path. Your intuition is getting stronger and everyone is noticing. Remember to go with your gut feelings because this time, they are absolutely correct. Major decisions should be made soon so that you can move on with your life. Make sure you make your Valentine’s Day plans ahead of time so that you can do exactly what you would like when you would like to do them. Consulting with your partner would be a nice touch that will make you both happy.
GEMINI: May 20 – June 19
You are the proverbial chicken running around without its head these days. You have wonderful plans of what you need to accomplish, but then go off and do something else. Try to focus on your goals and then try to finish them. Then you can go off to the next one on your list (or next 10 on your list for you dualistic signs). Relationships are redefined and plans may be in the works for you to take your relationship to the next level. If single, you may finally meet someone who is in both your best interests. Be open to those who may not fall into your narrow category of who is acceptable to date. Cast your net into a larger pool of individuals, even those with different beliefs or life paths. Money still seems to be somewhat of concern. There just is never enough, but with budgeting and only buying what you need and not what you want right now, you will get through these lean times better than most. However, you can still have a great Valentine’s Day by using Restaurant.com coupons or going to lunch or an early dinner. Other venues such as museums, art galleries or taking a stroll through New York City may be just what your purse (or pocket) needs.
CANCER: June 20 – July 21
Finances are of major concern now, but you will come through this situation with flying colors if you don’t panic. Spending on non-essentials is not an option now, so if there’s a new car, home repairs or projects that you feel need to get started, try holding off from starting them for at least a few months. Of course, if something is in dire need of repair, handle that immediately, but other things can wait. There may be some upcoming dealings with wills or inheritances, or if not, you may be getting ready for some issues with the IRS. Make sure your income tax return is accurate so that you are not audited. You may also be dealing with issues regarding your spouse’s money, such as him/her losing her employment, starting new employment (perhaps a home based business) and possibly not making as much as in the past. These new endeavors will work out and you will be back in a comfortable position soon. Valentine’s Day should be a fun time and you may want to spend it with your family rather than just your partner. Do what makes you feel happy and do what you want to do for a change.
LEO: July 22 – Aug. 21
It is a time to concentrate on one of the two most important things in your life – your home and your career. Which will it be? Home life should be a place of relaxation, meditation, fun, family and quiet time. Work is where the overwhelming stress and heavy energy makes you feel crazy; eating on the run or at your desk is not as healthy. You must get away from your office even if you eat quickly and take a walk around the parking lot, in a mall or by doing a few calming errands. Sleep may be affected by your erratic schedules, traffic, and tending the house, dinner, children, the laundry, cleaning up, etc. You must redefine the chores in your home since you don’t seem to be very good about them being delegated at work. Leos do not understand that they do not have to do everything by themselves, although they usually do. Others are more than capable of helping out, doing part of the work or handling chores at home. Help yourself to have some precious down time by delegating responsibilities at work and at home. Leos will plan a romantic Valentine’s Day with their partner even though it may be home based. Just spending time with your significant other is enough for you since you want the genuine intimacy now and are not as interested in the gifts of the day.
VIRGO: Aug. 22 – Sept. 21
You are trying very hard to get things done, but to no avail. Unexpected circumstances pop up to change your plans in a minute, so you need to go with the flow to get your list of “to do’s” done in a timely manner. There is new interest the future, children, and having some adventure and fun for a change rather than shouldering all of the responsibilities within your family. Love life either needs to be spiced up or one of you will look elsewhere for romance. There seems to be a lot of dissatisfaction in your life right now; finding out how you can change your life in a positive way would be important at this time, especially since you really don’t want to rock the boat, but you do want to be happy. Financial concerns also add to your confusion or depression during the month, but being you are a very practical and clever sign, you will find ways to patch things up and fix almost everything in your life with flying colors and pizzazz.

Health issues may be of concern to you, so if this is true, make an appointment with your health care provider. Melancholy and mild sadness may also try to find its way into your daily routine. The good news is that if you work hard during this period, the mental issues will disappear. If you worry about everything and just concentrate on the problems, concerns, fears, doubts and worries that you may have, you may be physically ill more than you thought possible. Get second opinions and use your intelligence to NOT make things worse than they are, especially in your own mind. Why not take a short weekend getaway to relax, rejuvenate and maybe do some of the things you usually do not have time for during the rest of your week. Love matters may be blown out of proportion, so give your loved one a chance to explain or try to be more patient. With communication and kindness you will both be able to patch things up and have so much fun on Valentine’s Day.
SCORPIO: Oct. 22 – Nov. 20
Your enthusiasm and knowledge will help you to shine in so many ways. Optimism, good energy and strength are behind you.
