Kinnelon Resident to Test Endurance at SuperFit Competition

Tracey Magee will be competing in a shore-based endurance competition this Saturday that will benefit Hurricane Sandy & the Wounded Warrior Project.

Tracey Magee, a Kinnelon resident and endurance athlete, will be heading to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach this Saturday for the SuperFit Championships, a workout competition of high-spirited, enthusiastic athletes from across the tri-state area.

This comes after Magee successfully qualified for the event at a May preliminary competition at the National Guard Armory in Morristown.

“This is quite an amazing event,” said Magee. “It’s an extremely positive experience and very well organized.”

SuperFit is a ‘CrossFit’ type workout competition stressing endurance and body weight mechanics. Athletes at the finals will compete in two separate exercises that utilize varying aspects of fitness, according to an advisory memo.

“Based on cumulative scores, a minimum of 10 finalists per division will qualify to compete in the final workout, which is for time and involves a sprint to the finish to determine the SuperFit Champion,” reads the SuperFit memo.

This is the first year of the event, but so far the public response has been great.

“The whole experience culminates into an exciting atmosphere,” said Briana Coyne, an event organizer and account manager at Precision Sports Entertainment. “And we’re doing this for two causes – the Wounded Warrior Project and Hurricane Sandy Relief.”

According to Armand Milanesci, the top event organizer, 10 veterans will partake in the Wounded Warrior portion of the event. Two teams of five will compete in friendly exercises to help raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors.

Also, the entire event will help raise funds for the Red Cross, which has been working feverishly to help revitalize the areas of Monmouth and Ocean counties (and beyond) after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

“We’ve all enjoyed the shore for years,” said Milanesci. “It’s dear to all of us. This is a great experience, and for worthy charities.”

170 athletes participated in four qualifiers throughout the state in May (all held at National Guard Armories) and about half of them will be making the trip to Point Pleasant for a potential championship title.

Magee will be competing in the women’s scaled division, and is eligible for a $750 first-place prize, or $250 second-place prize, in her respective category.

Other athletes, competing in the ‘RX’ division, which is a bit more rigorous, will be eligible for a $2,000 first place prize.

“It’s quite exciting to have this take place at the beach,” said Magee. “It adds a nice dynamic to it.”

“I’ve met some incredible people,” she added. “This really has been life-changing.”

Several other area residents will be making the trip to Jenkinson’s as well, including Bridget O’Rourke from Pompton Lakes and Cherese Matthews from Pompton Plains.

The spacious location of the Finals (which is up and ready to operate despite Sandy) also allows for a lot of spectators, which organizers believe will make the trip this Saturday.

“We’re going to have a special guest appearance,” said Milanesci. “Two ‘Jersey-centric’ people are going to come and host. Also, we’ll have kids games and plenty of raffle prizes.”

For those interested in attending the event, it’s at Jenkinson’s Inlet Beach on the North End, 106 Ocean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. It will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. this Saturday.
