Yes, Tammy, it IS a State Park and everyone is welcome. It is also, as far as the beach area isRead More concerned, a very small State Park. The swimming area is shallow....even more so when the lake is down. How often, Tammy, have you gone there on a week-end. Lakeside Blvd. is a mess every week-end because of people trying/waiting to get into the Park. Parking is limited, the picnic areas are limited. In all the years I have lived in Hopatcong, I only went there once, when a Life Guard was on duty, with my son when he was young. The experience was awful. My son was bullied for not being ethnically the same as the "tourists". The bathrooms were beyond filthy. I have been to many a State Park...the ones in south Jersey are wonderful.

Hi Charlotte-I have lived in this town for the better part of my 50 years and I know better than toRead More go to the State Park on the weekends in the summer. It's just something we have to deal with. To be quite honest, I am not a fan of lake swimming nor am I a sun worshiper. I'm sorry your son was treated poorly. While there is no excuse for bad behavior I can't fault those who are not as fortunate as we are in taking advantage of the opportunity to use the lake. I am having trouble understanding your displeasure with others using the Hopatcong State Park when you yourself have used other State Parks.

and that is the way government officials work; hide everything until the danger is so obvious thatRead More people more than likely might die. Just look at the way the Obama administration handles its minor problems and then lets them get out of hand!!!!!!
