Authorities spend $112,000 to take 'lethal weapons out of circulation.'
An AK-47 assault rifle and a 12-gague, double-barred shotgun were two of the more than 850 firearms that were turned in at a two-day gun Passaic County buyback program held last week. In addition to the AK-47 and the shotgun, two Tec 9 guns with 32-round magazines, an M1 rifle with a 20-round magazine and a sawed-off shotgun were handed in. Nearly 390 of the weapons were handguns. “It’s a credit to the citizens of Passaic County, as well as the other counties we’ve visited, that we’ve managed to take so many lethal weapons out of circulation,” Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said in a …

The approximately 120 arrests ranged from drug traffickers moving the heroin between Trenton and Paterson to dozens of buyers from North Jersey communities, Molinelli said. Most of the 23 accused dealers among the 120 arrested were from Paterson, Molinelli said. Last year, Bergen logged 28 overdose deaths, a more than 100 percent jump over the prior year.
