The twist: The focus is on parents and making sure they don't allow their kids to drink.
Through the Morris County Department of Human Services, the Butler Municipal Alliance Committee is participating in the Drug Free Action Alliance's Parents Who Host, Lose The Most Campaign. The campaign was developed to teach parents about the risks associated with underage drinking—and the legal consequences of allowing teens to consume alcohol. It encourages parents to tell their kids no. The effort also sends a message from the community: that teen alcohol consumption is unhealthy, unsafe and unacceptable. The BMAC will post lawn signs throughout Butler, place campaign stickers on pizza boxes from a local pizzeria, put informational brochures in bags at a liquor and convenience stores. The group will also host an educational meeting …

Contest awards a new car to an incoming college freshman.
For thousands of high school students enrolled in advanced placement courses, spring means more than warmer weather, baseball or softball, track or lacrosse. It means that the AP exams are just around the corner. For one area student, taking the advanced placement tests may also earn them a brand new Ford automobile in the second annual Route 23 Auto Mall AP Challenge. The event, to be held Saturday, July 27 (rain date July 28), is designed to encourage and reward outstanding academic achievement, organizers said. Juniors and seniors from local high schools who complete one or more AP courses and receive a grade of 3 or better out of possible 5 on the AP exam earn the chance to win a 2013 automobile. Diane DiGiuseppe 'a superb choice,' says former BOE president.
The Kinnelon Public Schools Board of Education voted 4-2 to drop the "interim" from Diane DiGiuseppe's superintendent title Thursday night. "It's very exciting," DiGiuseppe said of her new appointment. DiGiuseppe took over as the interim superintendent after James Opiekun retired from the role after 10 years in May 2012. Since June 1, 2012, she has been on what former Board of Education President Margaret Zybrick called "a year-long job interview," during which she dealt with hurricanes, snow storms and a national focus on school security following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December. "There was a huge outpouring of support from the teachers and administration," DiGiuseppe said. "There was a huge group of people there for…

Interim Superintendent Diane DiGiuseppe discusses the reasons behind the trend.
Kinnelon Public Schools Interim Superintendent Diane DiGiuseppe said district-wide incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) have gone down sharply this year compared to last year. State laws moderating HIB incidents and dictating appropriate follow-up and treatment from school administrations went into effect in time for the 2011-12 school year following the suicide of Rutgers student Tyler Clementi in September 2010. "There were a lot of confusions" during the law's first year, DiGiuseppe said. "I think across the board the state's provided additional training [this year to teach] what i the difference between normal student conflict and actual HIB incidents." Throughout all Kinnelon schools there were 96 investigations …
