Butler Test Scores Getting Improvement Plan

Aaron Decker School to implement action plan to raise students' scores on language arts portion of NJASK.

Their teachers and administrators are focusing on achievement as well, particularly in the area of language arts on the elementary school level. Aaron Decker School Principal Virginia Scala presented the school's testing figures for the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) at the December Butler Board of Education meeting. While she said her students scored better than those at other schools in their District Factor Group (schools of similar socio-economic status) she said that in several cases, the students test scores need improvement, particularly in the area of language arts. Butler School's Field Trip Destination a Concern

Board of Ed considers switching trip from Space Farms Zoo to alternate location.

Butler Board of Education Member Heather Grecco said she and her family have been going to Space Farms Zoo & Museum, in Sussex, since the 1970s and nothing has changed. Well, almost nothing. "They haven't done anything there since the '70s, I think, except stuff a giant bear," Grecco said to her fellow board members during a discussion about approving the 2012-13 field trip schedule at Monday's board meeting. Grecco voiced her concerns about the destination of the Aaron Decker School field trip to Space Farms, which, according to its website, is a 100-acre park with more than 500 animals. Earlier in the discussion, Board Member Beata Geyer Beaudoin asked the board to reconsider the location of the field trip. Beaudoin claimed the animals …

Lopez won the contest after baking a winning cake that "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro had judged. She is now a current employee at Carlo’s Bakery, in Hoboken, and can be seen on Cake Boss.  Marissa talked about her climb to the top and how baking and decorating is another art form students can aspire to. She also discussed her win on "The Next Great Baker" and answered many questions from the students.  Fourth graders had previously made a New Jersey Cake with art teacher Tracey Salvatore, while second Graders were designing their own “Buggy Cupcakes” with art teacher Alyssa Grosso…
