Murder Conviction Leads to 40-Year Prison Sentence for Butler Woman

Amalia Mirasola was found guilty of shooting her husband inside their Butler home in 2010.

A Butler woman was sentenced to 40 years in state prison Friday after being convicted of murdering her husband inside their home in 2010. Amalia Mirasola, 47, was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose on Jan. 31. She was charged with shooting her husband, Carl Mirasola, who was 43 at the time of his death. In addition to the prison sentence, the Hon. Robert Gilson, J.S.C. required that Mirasola serve 85 percent of her sentence under the state's No Early Release Act before she becomes eligible for parole, according to a press announcement of the sentencing by Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp. She will also have five years of parole supervision. “The sentence was an appropriate exercise of the…

The attorney representing Amalia Mirasola in her trial for the shooting death of her husband in their Butler home in 2010 said Mirasola shot Carl Mirasola in self defense, according to nj.com. Alleged Murderer Claims She Felt Threatened By Husband

Pre-trial hearings of Butler woman accused of shooting husband to death continue.

When Amalia Mirasola allegedly shot her husband to death inside their Butler home, she felt threatened, her attorney told a Superior Court judge in Morristown this week. According to the Star-Ledger, Mirasola's attorney, Kalman Geist, told the judge and other attorneys that her husband, Carl Mirasola, had been taking money from her disability checks and seeing a girlfriend before she allegedly shot him six times on May 22, 2010. As Amalia Mirasola, the woman accused of shooting her husband to death inside their Butler home in 2010, prepares to stand trial next month, her sister, Edna Gonzalez, may be called as a witness in the trial. Forty-seven-year-old Amalia Mirasola, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair-bound, allegedly told Butler police, "I think I shot my husband," when they arrived on the scene on May 22, 2010 and found Carl Mirasola, 43, dead.
