Four apartments uninhabitable after morning fire at Mountain Top Estates.
A man and woman were airlifted to the St. Barnabas Medical Center after suffering from facial burns in a fire Friday morning at the Mountain Top Estates apartment complex in Bloomingdale, according to Police Chief Joseph Borell. Both were in critical but stable condition as of Friday afternoon. Four apartments are now uninhabitable as a result of the fire. Four additional apartments were damaged. Firefighters arrived on the scene on Forest Drive around 7:20 a.m. to find a second-story apartment engulfed in flames. Fire officials take oath of office Tuesday.
Dozens of volunteers were sworn in at the Bloomingdale Council's reorganization meeting Tuesday. Among them were officials of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters raised their hands as they took the Oath of Office administered by Bloomingdale Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy. Following the firefighters, all volunteers who were present at the meeting and appointed to serve on various boards and commissions also took the Oath of Office.

A small fire on Treetop Court was quickly extinguished on Wednesday afternoon.
A small fire in a residence on Treetop Court was caused by someone trying to stay warm in the aftermath of Sandy, according to a release from the Bloomingdale Police Department. Shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the department and volunteers from the Bloomingdale Fire Department responded to the residence after reports of smoke. The resident was not at home, but a small fire was found inside. The fire was quickly extinguished. According to the release, the resident had been using charcoal bricks and a small barbecue for warmth and some trash had caught fire. The apartment was ventilated by the fire department because of odor. Several other residents were evacuated as a precaution, but all were allowed to return upon the scene …

Bloomingdale chief said fire began in kitchen of Main Street residence.
An occupant of a Main Street home in Bloomingdale was rescued when he was found unconscious after a fire broke out at the residence Tuesday night, Bloomingdale Fire Chief Mike Hudson said. A dog was also rescued from the residential fire at 91 Main St. Officials were on the scene around 10:30 p.m. when Hudson said a fire had started in the kitchen. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Hudson said the fire was put out within 10 minutes of officials arriving on the scene. Main Street was completely closed off to motorists while officials responded. The air smelled of smoke but exterior damage to the residence was not visible. Firefighter transported to hospital with leg injury.
A kitchen fire at a home on Leonard Road, in Butler, brought firefighters from Butler and Bloomingdale and first aid responders to the quiet neighborhood Friday afternoon. One firefighter was transported to Chilton Hospital with a leg injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Butler Fire Chief Jim Neill said Friday. Neill said the occupants of the home were all home at the time and reported the fire around 3:28 p.m. Upon arrival, Neill said the kitchen was in flames and there was smoke. The fire officials were able to put out the fire after parts of the home were damaged, but none of the family members were injured. The friend of a Boonton man who came to pick up his vehicle in Bloomingdale Sunday after police discovered his license was suspended was arrested on the scene for a warrant for her arrest out of Wanaque. Khawaja Mustafa, 23, was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and released with a summons and his friend, Dianely Contreras, 21, of Butler, was arrested and transported to the Bloomingdale police station where she later posted bail and was released. According to police, the vehicle Mustafa was driving was stopped at about 1:40 a.m. on Main Street when police allegedly discovered the suspended license. Also from the Bloomingdale Police Department

Butler police and fire officials responded to a brush fire between Notchwood Road and Brown Avenue at 3:11 p.m. on Wednesday. According to police, the cause of the fire, which occurred in a small wooded area near several residences, is still under investigation. Police Capt. Ciro Chimento, Acting Lt. Michael Moeller, Sgt. Joseph Natale and Ptl. Richard Stoll responded to the scene, where Fire Chief Jim Neill said further assistance would be needed. Police said the Bloomingdale Fire Department responded as well and the fire was controlled in a short amount of time. Bloomingdale police are investigating a brush fire police and fire officials responded to at 4:35 p.m. Friday on Hamburg Turnpike near Kasper's Inn. According to police, a section of Hamburg Turnpike was blocked off until the Bloomingdale Fire Department extinguished the fire and cleared the scene. Sgt. Michael Boffa, Sgt. Mark Gildersleeve, Ptl. Daniel Fletcher and Ptl. Steven Smith responded to the initial fire, but police said at 6:09 p.m., Ptl. David Terpstra and Ptl. Kevin Peirsel responded back to the scene where the fire had reignited. Residents evacuated Sunday morning.
The Bloomingdale Fire Department responded and put out a second-story large fire on Grove Street Sunday morning after Bloomingdale police evacuated residents from the home. Police said they responded at 5:21 a.m., just minutes after receiving the call. Police said the fire department was able to extinguish the fire, which they believe was caused by two gas grill propane tanks. Building Department Official Dan Hagberg inspected the scene and determined that there was no structural damage to the residence. Police said there were also no signs of foul play.

I was under the impression that the Borough funds all of the equipment and expenses of the FD. The donations do not fund it. I am not quite sure where the donations go but I think it is for the firemen's hall.   more ›
